Description
Phosphate (PO4) build up in the tank appears to be a fairly common problem in marine aquariums.
They are present in most tap water supplies, they are also introduced to aquarium water through fish waste, uneaten fish food and decaying material as well as low quality aragonite and calcium reactor' media.
Elevated concentrations of phosphate leads to the growth of various nuisance algae and will inhibit the growth in SPS stony corals as well as calcareous algae. High concentrations of phosphate will also darken SPS corals causing them to "brown out" .
Phosphates may be present as organic or inorganic phosphates inside our marine aquarium.
If inorganic phospates are much easier to be removed form water, organic phosphates will mostly not be impacted by phosphate-binding materials normally available to the aquarium hobby.

Elos Filtra P Marine binds large quantities of phosphate, both, inorganic as well as organic and it is completely reef safe, unlike some competing products adsorbants wich may leach phosphates back to the aquarium, or may simply precipitate driving more phosphate onto the sand and rock and suspended CaCO3 particulates.
Using ELOS FiltraP Marine, phosphate levels in a reef aquarium can be maintained very close to zero.

Important tips: many types of seafood contains various inorganic phosphate salts intentionally added to them as preservatives. Also aragonite, normally used as media in Calcium reactor, may contains phosphates wich will be released at low pH level back to the aquarium. The use of our marine fish food SVM as well as Ca Pur, our higly pure media for calcium reactors, can be higly beneficial in order to avoid the accumulation of PO4.

Note:
The use of ELOS FiltraP Marine is best applied when initially setting up a new aquarium. This will ensure that the phosphate will be eliminated before it is allowed to reach high concentrations. The continued controlled use of these phosphate binding medias will help prevent the growth of nuisance algae as well as providing a low nutrient environment which allows for maximum growth and will help hard and soft corals exhibit their brightest colors.

We suggest not to reduce phosphate levels too quickly in SPS dominated reef tanks thus some experiences have shown that such practices have been the cause of tissue necrosis (RTN ans STN).

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • helps to remove excess phosphate both organic and inorganic
  • reef safe
  • naturally promotes clear aquarium water
  • helps to restore and maintain the natural eco - balance
