Porcupine puffers should be kept in a 180 gallon or larger, fish-only aquarium with a good protein skimmer as they get quite large, and create a lot of waste. These fish can be aggressive at times and may nip at tank mates. They will eat also eat invertebrates found in a reef aquarium, like hermits, shrimp, clams, and crabs. It has the ability, when threatened or scared, to inflate its body to almost twice its normal size.
The Porcupine Puffer should be offered a varied diet of meaty foods including; squid, krill, clams, and hard shelled shrimp to help wear down their ever growing teeth.
