The Swallowtail Angelfish (Genicanthus melanospilos), also known as the Blackspot Angel, is a beautiful fish that should be housed in a 125+ gallon aquarium with plenty of hiding places. Like other species from the Genicanthus genus, these are considered reef safe, but please be aware that individual behavior can vary. The female is yellow along the dorsal fin and light blue ventrally. The caudal fin is blue highlighted by a dark, blue-black edging on the top and bottom. The male is marked with a series of vertical red stripes covering the entire pale-colored body. The tail of the male is forked and is yellow with blue edges. Males may fight with other males of the same species. Their diet should consist of marine algae, spirulina, mysis, brine, and other meaty foods. As planktivores, these fish prefer to pick their food out of the water column as opposed to grazing. Their max size is around 9". Sold as a 2.5"-3.5" juvenile/female. Sex may change with age.
